I wanna get my dad some thing “golf” for his bday.

what sort of club will he need the most (he already has a pinemeadow set) or putter that you think a general player needs the most?

and do you know a really good club that is cheap?
so best value? under $50 preferably
or a best value putter?

and do you know a good site that has this stuff? maybe a site with free shipping?

thx

Best set-up for beginner golfer (2 choices)?

Danny asked:

I am buying some clubs soon (off of craigslist/ebay to save money) and I have narrowed it down to two options. I am left handed if that matters, but I am trying to debate which is the best set-up to have. Both are selling for about the same price- but the clubs they come with are different. I used to play baseball so I know I will need to work on straightening my drives.

Set-up one:
Callaway Big Bertha War Bird Driver
Callaway Big Bertha War Bird Fairway Wood
Yonex A.D.X. 5 and 7 Woods
Lynx Irons 5-9
Lynx Pitching and Sand Wedges
Ping Zing 2 LS Lob Wedge
Ping Karstens Series Anser 2 Putter
Golf Bag

- My thoughts, sounds good has all I might need (might want a 3 or 5 iron?) Heard good things about big berthas and Ping.
(total set 13 clubs)

Second set-up
Nike NDS irons, 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,PW,SW with steel shafts. Nike CPR 18 degree hybrid. Nike 26 degree CPR hybrid. Nike Sasquatch 3+ 13 degree fairway wood.

- I would still need to buy a golf bag, I’ve heard great things about the hybrids and I could use the sasquatch in place of other woods? I don’t know if I need a driver since I am new but that might be something to keep in mind for the future.
Total set 12 clubs
Shape = Looks like they are in great shape

Since the prices are roughly the same (other than the golf bag) I am just curious as to which would be better in my situation, new, left handed, used to swinging a bat. I will buy whichever set is the best.

Thank you!!!
Thanks for the first reply! I just went to a pro shop and they said I didn’t really need to be fitted, I am normal body size (5′9 – 10) he said just standard clubs would work fine. But idk thanks for the suggestion. Still interested in peoples thoughts!

Safest golf balls to get someone that’s not named Titleist?

November 12th, 2009
Anon Y. Mouse asked:

For an end of the year gift for our AP Chem teacher, our class is putting together a bunch of items for him as a gift. He is an avid golfer and we want to put a picture of our AP Chem sticker on golf balls. I found a GREAT site to do this for me, but, they cannot put photos on Titleist golf balls. (I am an avid golfer also, and I’m well aware that the Pro V1 would be the safest pick) So, what brand/ball combo would be best–we DON’T care about price, and just want the best golf ball out there. If it were me, I would play Srixon Z-Star, but not everyone plays Srixon. The Candidates,
–TaylorMade (TP Red or Black)
–Callaway (Tour ix or i)
–Bridgestone (B330, B330–RX, B330.S)
–Srixon (Z–Star or Z–Star–X)

So as tempting as it is, don’t answer based on personal preference but instead on what is the safest to get someone. For example, if you got someone a Scotty Cameron putter, you can’t go wrong, but if you get them like a Yes putter, while they are great (and I own one), they aren’t for everyone. I hope you get what I’m saying.
By safe, I mean the type of ball with the least chance that he will dislike. Like, how many people have you met that dislike Titleist golf balls? Only a few, at most. Well, what is the next brand that is least dis-likable?
